What type of Directory do I need?

Overview of Directories

Summary

Evo can be setup on a number of different client environments.

If you don't know where to start, here are scenarios that can be applied:

On-Premise (LDAP)

If you are running an Active Directory server (Physical or Virtual) that users get their Domain Credentials and authentication from, you'll need to set up an On-Premise directory

Azure AD / Entra ID

If you manage your clients permissions and authentications via Microsoft Azure/Entra then you'll need to set up an Azure AD/Entra ID directory type

Google Workspace

If your clients are set up and managed via Google (Gmail, Drive) then you'll need to set up a Google Workspace Directory

Standalone Environment (Workgroup)

If your clients are on standalone machines or are on machines that are not connected to a domain, you can set up an Evo Cloud directory.

Directory Overview

Evo provides the ability to connect to your existing directory to sync your users. Or create a Evo Cloud directory.

How to add a directory

For the below we’re going to add a simple Evo Cloud Directory-as-a-Service (DaaS). Unlike the other directory types, an Evo Cloud directory doesn’t sync users, once the directory is created, you’ll need to add users directly to Evo.

  1. From the left nav menu, select My Company. Alternatively, select Customers and and choose a customer from the list.
  1. From the side navigation, click Directories.
  1. Select the Evo Cloud tab.
  1. Click Add New Directory.
  1. Enter a name for the directory.
  1. Click Create Directory.

How to edit a directory

For each directory type there will be limited or no detail that can be edited.

  1. From the left nav menu, select My Company. Alternatively, select Customers and and choose a customer from the list.
  1. From the side navigation, click Directories.
  1. In the displayed list of directories, find the one you want to edit. Click the "pencil" icon.
  1. Make the edits you want.
  1. Click Save.

How to delete a directory

Deleting a directory will remove all users contained within the directory. Once a directory has been deleted the action cannot be undone.

  1. From the left nav menu, select My Company. Alternatively, select Customers and and choose a customer from the list.
  1. From the side navigation, click Directories.
  1. In the displayed list of directories, find the one you want to delete. Click the "trashcan" icon.
  1. Click Delete.
  1. From the confirmation dialog, click Delete to confirm the deletion.
